World of Warcraft launcher

   Released the updated version of my simple Wow Launcher, now with more features. It's not a complicated tool or anything, I find it useful as I always change the priority of "Wow.exe" process in task manager, and I clear my cache frequently. Here you can find it:

AMD Catalyst Display driver 13.3 BETA released

  Just as nvidia did, AMD also released a new beta driver today, I am not the one to comment on their timings but it's kind of funny. Anyway, the 13.3 BETA driver promises the following(according to the official changelog :

  • up to 16% performance improvement in Sim City 5;
  • up to 5% performance improvement in Far Cry 3;
  • improves latency performance issues in Tomb Raider and Hitman Absolution;
  • resolves slight corruption seen in Tomb Raider with TressFX enabled for CrossFire and single GPU configurations.

UPDATE:

  I had the 13.1 catalyst installed on my RadeonHD 6570, so I decided to test these new beta drivers against the 13.1 version. So I did 6 runs of Perfromance Test(from PassMark) 2D and 3D, once with the 13.1 drivers, and then with the 13.3 beta.
   As you can see in the above table, the 2D tests showed a boost of ~91.5 points, while the 3D test showed no improvement at all(do notice that with the beta drivers the minimum score was one point higher).
   Another interesting thing is, that while playing some games, indeed the FPS did not seem to be better, but the games ran allot smoother; it might be a little placebo effect, but I can't tell for sure.
   I encountered no errors in any of the test made with the beta drivers, and no errors in several games.
   My opinion is that the 13.3 beta drivers are worth a shot, as my performance(read as gaming experience) went slightly up.

Nvidia GeForce 314.21 beta driver out

  For all you GeForce users out there, Nvidia just released a new beta, worth trying if you really want to try out the new Tomb Raider, or you are playing it.
  The main change log for the 314.21 beta is:

  • Improves performance and stability in Tomb Raider.
  • Adds new SLI and 3D Vision profiles.

UPDATE:

  I don't own a nVidia graphics card, but after roaming around the net I found out that most people are pleased with the performance gains promised in this beta release.

Android development taken over by Google's Sundar Pichai

      After Andy Rubin has left, in his place Google has appointed Mr. Sundar Pichai. This is actually good news, as Pichai has been the senior vice president for Chrome and Apps, and has a solid 9 year experience with Google.
      As far as I am concerned, I think that this step will benefit both the Chrome OS and Android. We'll just have to see how this goes and hope for the best!
